SAVE THE FLOATS
We hope someone out there knows of a large garage, warehouse, or barn where we can keep them for six months protected from the weather. The larger ones come apart to fit through a 7ft high, double door entrance. We are reaching out to float creators to see if they can help take care of their floats until the parade.
Our county officials are very supportive of the parade, but so far they have not come up with a solution to this problem. But we have not given up hope.
This will be the 10th anniversary of the Wheaton Arts Parade and we dearly want these old friends to with us to celebrate. You may recognize some of them below. When the parade first started, we made and stored floats at Westfield Wheaton in an empty space next to the AMC Cinemas. After that, Greenhill Properties gave the floats a home in the old Volunteer Rescue Squad on Grandview. After the M-NCPPC HQ was built, Councilmember Fani-Gonzales got permission for the floats to be stored on the ground floor retail space. But Montgomery County is finally installing power and plumbing for a commercial tenant. That's great news for Wheaton's economy but it means the Wheaton Arts Parade floats have to go.
