Call to WAP Gallery Artists
Wheaton Arts Parade will host the WAP Gallery "Retrospection” art exhibition from April 26 to May 31, 2024. "Retrospection" is an opportunity for 15 to 20 WAP Gallery associate artists to exhibit and sell their original, professional quality artwork in the heart of Wheaton's Central Business District. This is an amazing location to exhibit art. The gallery is spacious with lots of natural light, located right next to the Wheaton Metro Station, with plenty of public parking and excellent restaurants nearby.
Eligibility: The Gallery aims to maintain a diverse representation of local artists. All media of original art will be considered: painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, fiber etc. Artists can exhibit from 2 to 4 works to occupy display space equivalent to three 24"x24" paintings. Artists must have previously exhibited at the WAP Gallery. All art must be for sale and remain on display for the duration of the exhibition. Artwork that violates copyright laws will not be considered.
Registration Deadline: April 8, 2024 is the deadline to apply. There is no fee to apply. The link to the registration form and important details are in the PROSPECTUS. Artists will receive an email on April 12 indicating whether your work has been accepted.
Artist Responsibilities:
The gallery relies upon artist volunteers in order to operate. Artists who are willing to volunteer for at least 6 hours (2, 3-hour shifts) to help operate the gallery will be given priority consideration for acceptance in the exhibit. The Gallery's business hours are from 1pm to 7pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Gallery Fee & Commission: The exhibit fee is $50 and is due when the artist drops off their art or beforehand through online payment. Artists who gallery sit for 2, 3-hour shifts will have their fee refunded. The Gallery’s commission on the Artist’s sales revenue is 10%.
Display Requirements: The WAP Gallery selects the artwork that will be exhibited based on size, medium, and content. The Gallery aims to exhibit a diverse collection of original art by local artists. Artists can exhibit up to four works. Art for hanging (framed and unframed) must be dry and properly wired, using eye hooks or d-rings and wire that is of sufficient gauge to hold the weight of the artwork. Wire should not be visible when the painting is hung on the wall. No sawtooth hangers, twine or unstable hanging hardware should be used. Unframed works must have finished edges using the medium used to create the work.
Art Drop-Off: All accepted applicants will receive an email on April 12 with a link to the Gallery's www.signup.com calendar to reserve a time to drop off their art on the weekend of April 14-19.
