Pay Artist's Fee
The Wheaton Arts Parade (WAP) Gallery will host “Craving Cool” an art exhibition from July 13 to August 20, 2023. "Craving Cool" is an opportunity for 15 to 25 artists to exhibit and sell their original, professional quality artwork. We are looking for artists’ interpretations and impressions of what it means to stay be cool this summer. We encourage artists to consider the theme from a broad perspective from work focused on cool hues to depictions of ways we enjoy summer despite the heat. This is a great opportunity to showcase your original point of view.
Eligibility: The Gallery aims to maintain a diverse representation of local artists. All media may be submitted: painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, fiber etc. Artists must be from MD-DC-VA metro area. Art must remain on display for the duration of the show and everything on display must be for sale. Artists can exhibit from three to six works to occupy display space equivalent to three 24"x32" paintings.
Registration Deadline: The deadline to submit is July 2nd, 2023. There is no fee to apply with up to 6 pieces of art for consideration. The link to the registration form and important details are in the PROSPECTUS. You will receive an email on July 3rd indicating whether your work was accepted.
Artist Responsibilities:
The gallery relies upon artist volunteers in order to operate. Artists are required to contribute at least 12 hours (4, 3-hour shifts) of their time or more to help operate the gallery. The gallery needs 1 volunteer at the front desk to manage sales transactions and 1 volunteer at the back table to help watch over the merchandise, “Gallery sit” and assist customers as needed. The Gallery’s business hours will be determined by the number of artists in the show. The show lasts for six weeks. If 24 artists exhibit and volunteer 12 hours each, we can be open 4 days each week, Thursday-Sunday. If there are fewer artists we will reduce business hours accordingly.
Gallery Fee & Commission: The fee to exhibit is $100 for the length of the show. The Gallery's commission is 10% on all sales.
Display Requirements: The WAP Gallery selects the artwork that will be exhibited based on size, medium, and content. The Gallery aims to exhibit a diverse collection of original art by local artists. Artists can exhibit up to six works. Art for hanging (framed and unframed) must be dry and properly wired, using eye hooks or d-rings and wire that is of sufficient gauge to hold the weight of the artwork. Wire should not be visible when the painting is hung on the wall. No sawtooth hangers, twine or unstable hanging hardware should be used. Unframed works must have finished edges using the medium used to create the work.
Art Drop-Off: All accepted applicants will receive an email with a link to the Gallery's www.signup.com calendar to reserve a time to drop off their art on the weekend of July 7-9th, 2023.
